Q: Why should I join a list? Aren't the USENET newsgroup rec.sport.golf or on-line forums on some other golf web sites the same thing?
A: In my humble opinion, mailing lists are the best form of communication on the Internet. With mail, anyone can participate, even if they don't have access to News or the Web.
Finally, the content of the Tiger Woods mailing list is Tiger Woods talk in particular, as opposed to rec.sport.golf, which is a newsgroup for golf in general.
Q: Do I have to join the list to send messages to the list?
A: Yes.
Q: Who maintains the list?
A: The maintainer of the list is Rick Umali (rgu@world.std.com).
Q: What are the guidelines for this mailing list?
A: See below. These are the guidelines sent to all subscribers of the mailing list.
POLICIES AND GUIDELINES ----------------------- In general, I hope we follow the etiquette described at this URL: http://www.cs.ubc.ca/spider/edmonds/usenet/ml-etiquette.html Please let me (owner-tiger-list@world.std.com) know if you need a copy of this document. I'll be happy to email it to you. These are the policies and guidelines for this list. I am the one who enforces these rules. 1. This is a discussion group about Tiger Woods in particular and golf in general. All manner of Tiger Woods discussion, conversation, debate, scores, TV/Radio appearance warnings, and other information can be sent to the members of this list. In general, this is a pro-Tiger group, but dissenters are welcome. (See 2.) In general, golf discussions are allowed here as well, but for general golf topics, visit rec.sport.golf. 2. Flames, off-topic posts, offensive language/material, SPAMs, chain mail, and anything else not conforming to rule 1 will result in a warning message to the poster. After a few of these warnings, this person sending this message will be kicked off the list. 3. Off-topic threads will be tolerated only so much, before the owner-tiger-list (that's me) will "shut down" the list for a cooling off period. 4. Attachments such as Word Documents, images, WAV files, RealAudio files should NOT be sent to the list. 5. Copywritten material (such as news releases, articles found on the Web, etc.) should NOT be sent to the list. I encourage everyone to post excerpts, summaries, and pointers to various information, but please refrain from outright posting. 6. Items for sale, and other such advertising, should NOT be sent to the list. Small announcements are allowed, but this isn't a list to sell anything. (See 2.) 7. This list is a private list. In other words, the entire subscriber list is not available to anyone.
